For the leakage or overflow, too much water waste every time. If you face these problems, it’s time to replace the toilet guts. Well, if the problem is not that severe you can just repair the toilet guts. But, if you are thinking of replacing the toilet guts, you have to follow the steps below:

Water supply

If you are going to repair the toilet guts, the first and foremost work is to shut off the water supply. Turn off the water supply first to get rid of water wastage and leakage. Turn the shut-off valve clockwise after locating this at the back.  If you don’t shut off the water supply, it will distract you from the work. Moreover, toilet guts won’t fit perfectly if the water supply goes on. Besides, make sure, that you have shut it off perfectly, otherwise water leakage may happen.

Clear out water in the toilet tank

After the water supply has been shut off, flush the toilet once. Later, open the tank lid to clear the water. Use a sponge to clear out the remaining water. Do this until the tank is empty. This will ensure a dry floor and help you to proceed through to the other steps.

Removing

Remove the fill valve first to unscrew the inlet hose from the tank. It will be in the bottom part of the tank. Later, remove the back nut holding the fill valve in position. After this, the fill valve will be loosening up. A loose-fill valve will help to perform the next works. After removing, slightly hold the flush handle. Remove the flush handle gently. After that, proceed to the next step.

Separation

The next step is to separate the tank from the bowl. As you have already removed the flush handle and the attached fill valve, it will be easy for you to do the rest. Getting rid of these gives you more space to remove and unscrew the tank from the bowl. You can use a heavy-duty screwdriver. By this screwdriver gently undo the two screws and nuts. These screws basically help to secure the tank to the bowl. Later lift the tank and place it aside.

Gasket

The next step is to remove the gasket. You will find this between the tank and bowl. The process of removing the tank from the bowl should remove the gasket too. This gasket seals the waterway between these two parts. Remove this gasket gently and use a screwdriver or a sharp object to scrape off the gasket bits. Remember, the screwdriver should be flat-headed.  After removing the attached gasket, move on to the next step.

Installing

The next step is to install a new flush valve.

Start by removing the old flush valve. Unscrew the back nut from below the tank which gently holds the old flush valve. You have to remove it. Install a new bought one and secure it in the same position using its back nut. Next, fit a new rubber gasket. You should attach it to the threaded part of the valve. It will help to protrude it down below the tank.

Reseat

The last step is to reseat the tank on the bowl. This is the last process of this full installation procedure. If you don’t reseat properly it won’t work perfectly. Try to follow the manual carefully. It is not that kind of hard work. When you are done with placing the rubber gasket, proceed to this last step to finish the process.

Gently reseat the back of the tank. Reseat this to the top of the bowl. Here you should keep some information in mind. Make sure that the new rubber gasket falls squarely and equally above the bowl’s water intake. If the gasket falls equally or squarely, it will form a tight seal. If you see that it is not forming, try to do the work again.

Make sure the rubber gasket is attached properly. After that, the next procedure is securing. Carefully secure the tank to the bowl. You can use screws and nuts to secure the tank. If you don’t secure the tank perfectly, it can cause leakage or result in water wastage. Later, ensure that you have included a rubber washer in the middle part to prevent unwanted leakage problems.

So by following these steps, you can easily replace the toilet guts. If the toilet guts are not damaged, try to repair this with the help of a plumber. Otherwise, buy a new one and replace it.
